Road Trip ..... Part 1!

After spending one night in Las Vegas at Cat Hostel (the taxi ride from the bus station along the strip that was lit up like Christmas was incredible, the best ride ever and we cannot wait to be back) we picked up the car from Circus Circus Hotel and Casino - people gambling already at 9am waaa!! and headed to Walmart to stock up for our trip!

From Las Vegas we got on the 95 North and then highway 160 and drove through nothing but desert and the odd random bank or correctional centre, before we drove over the state line into California. How some people live out there I do not know? Once we crossed the state line, highway 190 took us all the way through Death Valley. The desert turned into limestone mountains and the scenery was amazing. We stopped for a picture moment and luckily there was a Mountain Ranger who as well as playing photographer advised us that one of the roads we were meant to be taking was closed because of melting snow and doesn't open until summer .... Stoooopid google maps!! So after a little re - routing, we continued our journey through Death Valley and stopped at Zabriskie Point and Furnace Creek Visitors Centre where they helped us out with a map.

We then joined highway 178 and made our way through Ridgecrest, Inyokern and passed Lake Isabella and continued onto Bakersfeild. We then joined Route 99 north and after several hours of motorway driving (boringggg) we found Highway 140, home to our hostel! However now pitch black, highway 140 resembled something off an American horror film and we were waiting for Jeepers Creepers to fly out at any moment! The scary stories defiantly didn't help!! We were worried that the hostel wouldn't let us check in because it was nearly midnight but luckily when we arrived even though reception was closed they'd left an envelope on the door with our key and some instructions for parking etc. We wanted nothing more than to crash out and that's exactly what we did!
